Here is the puppy version of yesterday’s post. Since this was a learning exercise, I wanted them to try different stitches. They usually finished the ears in blanket stitch. The pattern pieces were cut doubled with two contrasting colors of felt. The girls were then able to choose which color they wanted to be on top of each part. The dotting of each piece didn’t take as long as I thought and it made learning to sew much easier. They didn’t have to deal with stitch placement, just keeping their threads tangle free. The thread was doubled too, so the needles stayed on the thread. That is less frustrating when starting out. They did learn to thread their needles, make a knot in the end, finish off with 3 lock stitches, and hide the ends. I wear scissors on a ribbon around my neck when I work. I ended up buying some inexpensive little blunt nosed scissors and looping them on ribbon, so each girl could have scissors around her neck too during class. Funny what kids pick up on and want to emulate.
