Drawn Thread Lace 2

I am exhausted and had a hard time thinking of something to write about for today. So I am posting another photo that has been on my flickr page for awhile. This late 1800’s drawn thread sampler is one of 4 and has the most flickr views. Maybe it is clicked on more often because the bow-tie shapes don’t seem to be worked in any pattern. I have tried to figure out the pattern and just don’t see one. It was almost like the stitcher didn’t even think about the over all design. Sometimes when stitching the little details become so important, like concentrating on forming a certain new stitch, that the overall effect isn’t noticed until after the work is finished. I wonder if that was the case in this hand worked piece of lace.
