“The Little Knitters”

This is such a busy time of year that I am not able to craft as much as usual, so it is hard to blog daily. I think I will write about my avatar, “The Little Kinitters” by Albert Anker painted in 1892. I first saw this painting at the Los Angeles Museum of Art when it came with a collection from the Oskar Reinhart Foundation, Winterthur, Switzerland. The knitters are Berta and Marta Reubi, children of the artist’s friends. I love how Anker captured the concentration of both sisters. The older one with her chin pressed upon her chest doing the actual knitting and the younger one eager to learn and helping by unraveling the yarn. Notice the older one is knitting continental style and on 4 needles. Something many adult knitters aren’t willing to master.
